National Truck Driver Appreciation Week – September 15-21, 2024
National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (NTDAW) is an annual, nationwide celebration and cornerstone program launched by the American Trucking Associations in 1988 to recognize and honor the vital contributions of truck drivers to our daily lives and the economy. Nearly every aspect of daily life is made possible because a truck driver delivered the goods and resources people need.
NTDAW is an important time for America to thank all the professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment in undertaking one of our economy’s most demanding and important jobs.
There are over 3.5 million men and women who are currently professional truck drivers in the U.S. In 2022 they were hauling 72.6% of freight in the United States a whopping total of 11.46 billion pounds! With that being said, let’s look at some interesting facts about the trucking industry to celebrate.
- In 1898 Alexander Winton invented the very first semi-truck.
- In 1913 weight limits were introduced to regulate truck loads.
- In 1933 the American Trucking Association was made.
- In 1938 they introduced Hours of Service rules.
- In 1967 (DOT) was created which stands for Department of Transportation.
Trucking has been and will continue to be a vital part of the way our world works. We rely heavily on deliveries daily for all sorts of items that make our world go-round.
NTDAW serves as a reminder of the importance of these hardworking folks and the sacrifices they make every day to keep America moving. It’s a time to thank them for their dedication, commitment, and the many challenges they overcome to ensure that our goods are delivered safely, securely, and on time.
