Controller

North Central Utility, a semi-trailer dealership based in Madison, WI with locations in WI, MN, and ND, has an open position for Controller. 

This position is responsible for all accounting functions in a multi-dealership operation and should possess strong leadership skills as well as knowledge of dealership accounting. 

A CPA with experience in dealership operations is preferred.  Additional responsibilities include monthly closing, production of financial statements, payroll, implementing IT functions as needed, and working with the accounting staff to provide timely reporting.

Parts Warehouse

JOB DESCRIPTION:  We are seeking a parts warehouse employee to perform work assignments while maintaining established company and industry standards.

JOB DETAILS:

  • Receive and sign each incoming shipment, checking for damage, correct package count, and shipping charge status, identifying collect versus prepaid.
  • Process incoming orders within 24 hours of the order received. Check off parts on the purchase order and packing list to make sure all parts received.  Check to ensure there is no concealed damage; ensure that all kits received have correct parts inside. Distribute incoming parts as required to place in stock for the shop or front counter or outside for the route.  Parts for stock must be part numbered, put away and their bin location recorded on the packing list.  Post (basic data entry) packing list receipt and location changes into our operating system.
  • Maintain a current inventory list of all items stored in each storage trailer.  Keep warehouse, shipping, and receiving area, rail racks, storage trailers, and upstairs neat, clean, and organized. Maintain shipping supplies, forms from shippers, and current freight rates from shippers. 
  • Pull, package, and bill the orders for the weekly shuttle.  Load and unload the shuttle truck, keeping track of the baskets, paperwork, and company mail.  Check-in/put away shuttle orders.
  • Process outgoing shipments; pull, package and bill the orders making sure that the paperwork matches the items shipped.
  • Maintain dirty core inventory, returning dirty cores in an expedient manner, maintain/update the dirty core list.
  • Maintain warranty tracking; file warranty claims with vendors; return parts for warranty consideration in an expedient manner; ensure customers’ claims are processed immediately.
  • Operate forklift and standard transmission vehicles.  Inform your manager of repairs needed.
  • Process orders for the Parts Department in a safe and efficient manner.  Load the delivery vehicle, making sure that the paperwork matches the items loaded.
  • Ensure items loaded for delivery match the customers’ invoices. All returns are processed in an expedient manner.  Tag the returns with the customer name, date, and reason for return and load into the vehicle.  Prepare return document and copy the customer.
  • Obtain a receipt or a packing list for returns; when an order is returned without paperwork, immediately prepare a summary/packing list regarding these items.
  • Assist customers in identifying parts’ needs; accurately pull and invoice orders; answer telephones and greet customers in a timely and professional manner
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 30-60 pounds consistently; occasionally up to 75-100 pounds. 
  • Frequent walking, standing, sitting, reaching, lifting, bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motion with strength, stamina, and control are required.  
  • Use of warehouse and forklift equipment required. (Forklift certification will be provided prior to forklift usage).
  • Prior delivery experience is helpful
  • 6-months of forklift experience is preferred. 
  • A high school diploma is preferred.
  • Ability to read, communicate and respond to internal procedures and documentation.

Job Description

North Central Utility is seeking an experienced CDL Truck Driver to work part-time from our Fargo, North Dakota facility. A typical work week will be 30 or more hours but will vary depending on the work available. Responsibilities include moving new and used semi-trailer inventory between NCU branches along with pick-up and delivery of customer trailers for the sales and service departments. 

A valid state driver’s license and CDL with a clean driving record is required. 

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience with tandem axle tractor/trailer combinations, familiarity with electronic logs, and the ability to work with a flexible work schedule.

Parts Counter Sales Representative

Primary Functions:

As a representative & Team Member of our Parts Department, you will perform a wide variety of work assignments maintaining established Company and Industry Standards.

Under the Parts Manager, you will work effectively representing Counter Sales (primary), and Parts Warehouse (secondary).  You will ensure outstanding Parts Department Customer Service consistently.

Specific Functions:

1 – Ensure outstanding customer service with walk-in counter sales as well as incoming telephone calls for the Parts Department

JOB DESCRIPTION:  As a Parts Manager, you are on the front line of our business setting profit and growth objectives, increasing sales and profit margins, and controlling expenses. 

JOB DETAILS:

  • Utilize above-average computer skills to review inventory and sales reports, monitor your branch inventory, sales, and expense performance. 
  • Manage outside sales, counter sales, warehouse, and delivery personnel. 
  • Work with other department managers to provide superior communication and teamwork between departments, within your branch, as well as companywide.
  • Hire / train parts personnel in department procedures, product knowledge, and customer service skills.

EDUCATION:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferred; Forklift knowledge is required/Certification preferred.

Mobile Technician (Heavy Duty Trailer Mechanic and Welding) Mechanic

Primary Functions:

As a mobile technician perform work assignments maintaining established company safety standards and Department of Transportation and industry repair standards!

Specific Functions:

  1. Diagnose and recommend repairs as required.
  2. Perform repairs and modifications on all styles of trailers.
  3. Impact work assignments based on acquired quality experience and knowledge.
  4. Document and record all work processes, performed in accordance with government laws, regulations, and ordinances.
  5. Perform repairs and modifications on all styles of trailers.
  6. Complete a wide range of welding (i.e. aluminum, mild steel, and stainless steel) with Mig. Welding tools.
  7. Mechanics perform a range of work requiring the utilization of proper safety, lifting, and operating procedures in reference to semi-trailer mechanical equipment, air pressure tanks, welding equipment, heavy-duty jacks, carts, and related accessories.

 

Education:

  •  3 months of Associate’s coursework in Mechanics and Welding helpful but not required.

 

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of trailer mechanic experience is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of DOT inspections or PM inspections is required
  • A minimum of 6 months of heavy-duty welding experience is preferred.
  • The ability to communicate directly with the customer on repairs.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 80 pounds intermittently, a minimum of 30-60 pounds consistently.
