Protecting Your Trailers From Harmful Chemicals
Soaps are Diluted Chemicals
Wash solutions commonly used for trailer washes contain caustic chemicals that can cause irreversible damage to your equipment. Understanding the recommended pH balance for your wash solutions will help you find the right solution to protect your equipment without causing unnecessary harm.
for wash solutions range from 5-9. Using chemicals outside this range are too acidic or alkaline and will accelerate corrosion and damage your trailer.
Comparing pH Levels
You can measure the pH level of your wash solution with a simple litmus test. The pH scale measures how acidic or basic (alkaline) a substance is on a scale of 1 to 14. A level of 7 is neutral, less than 7 is acidic and more that 7 is basic. The acidity or alkaline of a solution increases exponentially from one pH level to another. In other words, a chemical with a pH level of 3 is actually 10 times more acidic that one with a pH level of 4, and 100 times more acidic that one with a pH level 5.
